Functional biomedical testing can be a helpful tool in allowing practitioners to focus on specific health concerns and create a truly bespoke plan for the individual they are supporting.
Functional testing evaluates genetic predisposition and functional reserve, providing information about a number of bodily functions, ranging from digestion and absorption of macro and micro nutrients to detoxification capacity, mitochondrial health, hormonal balance, inflammatory response as well toxic and allergenic load.
Nutritional genomics is an evolving and exciting field and is the study of the relationship between human genome, nutrition and health. It is known that genetic variations can confer certain advantages or disadvantages towards health, in a given environment. Research has shown that DNA methylation alters how genes are expressed.
Whilst recognising that genetics are powerful, we have the opportunity to influence gene expression through modification of diet and lifestyle and in some cases the inclusion of specific nutrient supplements.
