Nutritional Therapy practitioners use a wide range of tools to assess and identify potential nutritional imbalances and understand how these may contribute to an individual’s symptoms and health concerns. This approach allows them to work with individuals to address nutritional balance and help support the body towards optimum health.
Nutritional Therapy Consultation
Prior to the consultation
You will be asked to complete a confidential questionnaire, which you can either complete online here or download and print from here and email or post the completed form to us prior to our first meeting. This is a very comprehensive questionnaire, which will be reviewed thoroughly prior to our meeting, allowing you to get the most out of the consultation.
The first consultation
The consultation will last approximately 75 minutes during which time we will discuss specific health concerns and review medical history as well as gain a thorough overview of eating habits, lifestyle, and family history.
We will put a comprehensive individualised plan together. which may include diet and lifestyle modifications, as well as recommendations for appropriate laboratory testing, and targeted supplements, nutraceuticals and herbs.
Research in the field of autism has picked up enormous momentum in the past 2 years. There is increasing and compelling evidence, coupled with direct experience in a clinical setting, to suggest that individuals with autism spectrum conditions often suffer from issues with digestion and absorption, food and chemical sensitivities, oxidative stress, compromised immune function, mitochondrial disorders, impaired detoxification systems and higher than normal bacterial, viral and parasitic load.
We will approach these complex health issues functionally and will work together to address and support each body system in a systematic way, starting with the optimisation of digestion and absorption, reducing food and chemical sensitivities, and enhancing and supporting the detoxification system. We may also focus on supporting mitochondrial function, reducing oxidative stress as well as balancing hormone levels. We will address all body systems which appear to be compromised and focus on achieving optimum health.
A comprehensive dietary plan will be discussed with you, explaining the benefits and relevance of addressing the particular health concerns. Supplements, herbs and nutraceuticals may be suggested and full details of dosing and duration will be discussed. In some cases we may suggest laboratory testing and will talk through the options available to you in detail.
We have found the best way of keeping everyone on track and motivated is to have a review every 6 to 8 weeks. Once we have implemented some keys strategies the reviews are expected to be every 10 to 12 weeks. Supporting families and ensuring a commitment to the protocol is paramount and can make an enormous difference to the outcome.
If any laboratory tests have been ordered their results will be discussed with you during a follow up consultation.
Consultations are carried out in person at the Brainstorm Health clinic in Harley Street, London. In cases where travelling is difficult, consultations can be offered by phone or Skype. International consultations are carried out by Skype.
